Recommendation:
We are big fans of Res-Up. In fact, we are the nation’s leading seller of Res-Up Gallons! If your softener is on a well with greater than 1 PPM iron, we HIGHLY recommend a Res-Up Feeder.
Otherwise, we feel it is easier (and certainly more economical) to simply add ½ cup per cubic foot directly to the brine well on a periodic basis, typically each time you add salt, or quarterly, whichever is greater.
PRO TIP - If you are opting for a Res-Up Feeder, installation is much easier in a round brine tank vs the 15” x 17” or 11"x11" tanks. While not impossible, it is certainly challenging.
Reasoning:
Res-Up is a phosphoric acid resin cleaner that helps strip the softener resin of excess particulate such as iron, while simultaneously cleaning the internals of the control valve during the regeneration cycle.
A Res-Up Feeder is a simple plastic reservoir with a nylon wick which allows Res-Up to slowly drip into the well of your brine tank.
Installing a Res-Up Feeder ensures that a small amount of Res-Up will flush through your system during each regeneration, thus keeping your system working as efficiently as possible.
